Four-Day Itinerary for Somnath in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Visit the Somnath Temple

    The Somnath Temple is one of the twelve 'Jyotirlingas' of Lord Shiva. The temple has a beautiful architecture and is considered one of the holiest shrines for Hindus.   2. Day 2: Visit Bhalka Tirth and Veraval Beach

    Bhalka Tirth is the place where Lord Krishna was hit by an arrow that caused his death. The temple at this site has a peaceful environment and is a popular tourist destination. Afternoon can be spent exploring the Veraval Beach and its nearby attractions. The beach is serene and less crowded than other beaches in the area, making it an ideal spot to relax and unwind.

  3. Day 3: Visit Junagadh and Girnar Hill
    Junagadh is located 1 hour and 6 minutes (56.3 km) from Veraval Beach. Girnar Hill is located 18 minutes (4.3 km) from Junagadh.

    Junagadh is a historic city known for its forts, palaces, and temples. The Uparkot Fort, Mahabat Maqbara, and the Jama Masjid are some of the must-visit places in the city. Afternoon can be spent exploring the Girnar Hill. The Girnar Hill is a holy site and is home to various temples and ashrams. The climb up the hill can be tiring, but the view from the top is worth the effort.

  4. Day 4: Visit the Somnath Museum and Triveni Sangam
    Somnath Museum is located in Prabhas Patan, 1 minute (400 m) from Somnath Temple. Triveni Sangam is located in Prabhas Patan, 2 minutes (750 m) from Somnath Museum.

    The Somnath Museum has a vast collection of artifacts and sculptures related to the history of the Somnath Temple. The Triveni Sangam is the meeting point of three holy rivers - Hiran, Kapila, and Saraswati. Taking a dip in the confluence is considered auspicious and is a must-do activity. Afternoon can be spent exploring the nearby markets for souvenirs and local handicrafts.

Recommendations

Other attractions in the area include the Bhidbhanjan Temple, Ahalyabai Temple, and the Somnath Beach. A side trip to the nearby town of Diu is also recommended. The island town is known for its beaches and Portuguese architecture.
