Exploring Nature in Rameshwaram in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Dhanushkodi Beach
18 minutes (10.2 km) from Rameshwaram center

In the morning, visit the Dhanushkodi Beach, a serene beach with clear blue waters and white sand. Enjoy the beach and indulge in water activities such as swimming and surfing. For lunch, head to the nearby food stalls to try out some delicious seafood. In the afternoon, visit the Pamban Bridge, a railway bridge that offers stunning views of the sea and the surrounding islands. In the evening, visit the Agnitheertham, a sacred water body where pilgrims take a dip to wash off their sins.

  2. Day 2: Gandhamadhana Parvatham and Kurusadai Island
25 minutes (12.9 km) from Dhanushkodi Beach

Early morning, visit the Gandhamadhana Parvatham, a hillock that offers a panoramic view of the entire Rameshwaram island. The place also has a huge footprint of Lord Rama, which is believed to have been imprinted during his search for Sita. Later, head to Kurusadai Island, a marine biosphere that is home to a variety of flora and fauna, including the endangered sea cow species. Take a boat ride to the island, explore it, and return by evening.

  3. Day 3: Ramanathaswamy Temple and Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Memorial
25 minutes (12.7 km) from Gandhamadhana Parvatham

Begin the day with a visit to the iconic Ramanathaswamy Temple, a masterpiece of Dravidian architecture. The temple has 22 holy springs and is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. After the temple visit, head to the Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Memorial, a tribute to the former president of India and a great scientist. The memorial showcases the life and achievements of the 'Missile Man of India', who was born and raised in Rameshwaram. In the evening, visit the Kothandaramaswamy Temple, which is believed to be the place where Vibhishana, Ravana's brother, surrendered to Lord Rama.
