Mesmerizing Munnar: 3-Day Itinerary in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Pothamedu Viewpoint
    30 minutes (8.5 km) from Munnar Bus Stand

    Start your day by witnessing breathtaking views of tea, coffee and cardamom plantations from the Pothamedu Viewpoint. The serene surroundings will calm your mind and leave you mesmerized. You can go for a short trek or take a guided plantation tour to learn about the cultivation process of various crops. In the evening, head to the nearby tea factory to taste some fresh tea and buy some to take back home.

  2. Day 2: Mattupetty Dam and Kundala Lake
    1 hour (16.5 km) from Pothamedu Viewpoint

    Drive to the famous Mattupetty Dam which offers stunning views of the surrounding hills and valleys. You can also go for a boat ride to explore the picturesque surroundings. After lunch, head to Kundala Lake, known for its scenic beauty and serene atmosphere. Take a stroll around the lake and enjoy the fresh air. You can also go for a Shikara ride or pedal boat ride to explore the lake further.

  3. Day 3: Eravikulam National Park and Tea Museum
    1 hour (12 km) from Kundala Lake

    Visit the Rajamalai region of Eravikulam National Park, where you can spot the endangered Nilgiri Tahr and plenty of other wildlife. The park is also home to several species of rare butterflies, birds and plants. After lunch, visit the Tea Museum to learn about the history and importance of tea in the region. You can also sample different varieties of tea and buy some to take back home.

Recommendations

Make sure to visit the beautiful Top Station, located approximately 40 km away from Munnar. You can also consider taking a side trip to the famous hill station of Thekkady, known for its lush green forests and wildlife reserves. To maximize your fun, try to attend the annual Tea and Tourism Festival held in Munnar in August. For a unique experience, try staying in a treehouse or a houseboat.
