4-Day Adventures in Mysore in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Mysore Palace
    10 minutes (3 km) from Mysore Junction Railway Station

    In the morning, explore the stunning Mysore Palace, one of the most visited attractions in India. Built by the Wodeyar dynasty in 1912, the palace features a blend of Hindu, Muslim, Rajput, and Gothic styles. Take in the intricately carved doors, mosaic floors, and colourful stained glass. In the afternoon, head to the nearby St. Philomena's Cathedral, an impressive Neo-Gothic structure. In the evening, stroll through Brindavan Gardens, a beautiful park with an illuminated musical fountain.

  2. Day 2: Chamundi Hill
    20 minutes (8 km) from Mysore Palace

    Start the day by climbing Chamundi Hill, a sacred spot for Hindus with a panoramic view of Mysore. Visit the Chamundeshwari Temple, a 12th-century shrine dedicated to the goddess Durga, and take in the impressive Nandi statue. In the afternoon, head to the Mysore Zoo, home to over 1500 animals from 168 species including tigers, elephants, and gorillas. In the evening, catch a cultural performance at the Mysore Palace.

  3. Day 3: KRS Dam and Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary
    1 hour 10 minutes (25 km) from Mysore Palace

    Take a day trip to the KRS Dam, a spectacular hydroelectric project and a popular picnic spot. Marvel at the intricate carvings on the Brindavan Gardens fountain and enjoy a boat ride on the reservoir. In the afternoon, head to Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary, a serene haven for migratory birds such as storks, herons, and kingfishers. Take a boat ride and spot crocodiles and otters. In the evening, sample some delicious local cuisine at the Food Street in Mysore.

  4. Day 4: Nagarhole National Park
    2 hours 30 minutes (80 km) from Mysore Palace

    Embark on a thrilling wildlife safari at Nagarhole National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Keep an eye out for tigers, leopards, elephants, and sloth bears as you traverse the lush tropical forests. Afternoon, head to the nearby Iruppu Falls, one of the most picturesque waterfalls in Karnataka. Take a dip in the cool waters and enjoy a serene picnic. In the evening, head back to Mysore for some shopping at Devaraja Market.
