Munnar Nature 5-Day Itinerary - June 2023

  1. Day 1: Eravikulam National Park
    20 minutes (9.6 km) from Munnar

    In the morning, take a 2-hour scenic drive to Eravikulam National Park, where you can spot endangered mountain goats, known as Nilgiri Tahr. Afternoon is perfect for a trek to the park's highest peak, Anamudi, which stands at 2,695 meters. In the evening, visit the Tea Museum, to learn more about the history and production of tea in the region.

  2. Day 2: Mattupetty Dam and Lake
    40 minutes (22.5 km) from Eravikulam National Park

    Spend the morning at Mattupetty Dam and Lake, where you can enjoy a peaceful boat ride while admiring the gorgeous surrounding mountains. Afternoon, head to Top Station, the highest point in Munnar, and enjoy stunning panoramic views. In the evening, visit the Kundala Dam and Lake for a relaxing stroll.

  3. Day 3: Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary
    2 hours (67 km) from Mattupetty Dam and Lake

    Start early and head to Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary to explore the diverse flora and fauna of the region. There are plenty of trekking options available, and you can spot a variety of animals like elephants, spotted deer, and langurs. Afternoon head to the nearby Thoovanam Waterfalls for a refreshing dip. In the evening, visit the Marayoor Sandalwood Forests to catch the beautiful sunset.

  4. Day 4: Anayirangal Dam
    2 hours 30 minutes (100 km) from Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary

    In the morning, visit the Anayirangal Dam, which is surrounded by lush green tea plantations and dense forests. You can take a boat ride and enjoy the serene surroundings. Afternoon head to the Kolukkumalai Tea Estate, the world's highest tea plantation for a tour and taste the unique tea produced there. In the evening, head back to Munnar and visit the nearby Carmelagiri Elephant Park for a close-up encounter with elephants.

  5. Day 5: Pothamedu View Point
    30 minutes (8 km) from Anayirangal Dam

    On your last day, visit the Pothamedu View Point, which offers mesmerizing views of the tea, coffee and cardamom plantations of Munnar. Afternoon, head to the Attukad Waterfalls, where you can enjoy a peaceful picnic. In the evening, visit the Munnar Market and indulge in some local shopping. End your day with a relaxing Ayurvedic massage.

Recommendations

Do not miss the opportunity to visit the Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary, which is home to a wide variety of exotic birds. You can also take a day trip to the nearby hill station of Vagamon for a change of scenery. Make sure to try the local delicacy, puttu and kadala curry, which is a popular breakfast dish. Do not forget to carry an umbrella or raincoat as it is the monsoon season in June.
