Exploring Varanasi in December 2023

  1. Day 1: Explore the Ghats
    10 minutes (3.1 km) from Varanasi Junction Railway Station

    In the morning, head to the Assi Ghat and take a boat ride along the river Ganges. Visit the Kashi Vishwanath Temple in the afternoon, followed by a stroll along the Dashashwamedh Ghat in the evening to witness the Ganga Aarti.

  2. Day 2: Sarnath and Ramnagar Fort
    30 minutes (10.5 km) from the last destination

    Visit Sarnath, the place where Lord Buddha gave his first sermon. Explore the various Stupas and Monasteries in the morning. In the afternoon, head to the Ramnagar Fort to witness the royal artifacts and the Ramnagar Museum.

  3. Day 3: Banaras Hindu University and Shopping
    20 minutes (6.8 km) from the last destination

    Start your day by visiting the Banaras Hindu University, one of the largest residential universities in Asia. Explore the Bharat Kala Bhavan Museum and the famous Vishwanath Temple inside the campus. In the afternoon, head to the local markets for some shopping and try out the famous Banarasi Paan.

Recommendations

If you have extra time, explore the narrow alleys of Varanasi and try out the local delicacies. You can also take a day trip to Chunar Fort or the Chandraprabha Wildlife Sanctuary.

For a more spiritual experience, visit the Tulsi Manas Temple and the Annapurna Temple. You can also take part in the early morning Subah-e-Banaras program at the Assi Ghat.

To maximize your fun, take a hot air balloon ride during the morning hours for a breathtaking view of the city and the Ganges River.

Lastly, don't forget to indulge in the local silk and cotton products, perfumes, and spices while shopping in the city.
