Two-day Itinerary for Mysore

  1. Day 1: Mysore Palace
    10 minutes (2 km) from Mysore Zoo

    In the morning, explore the Mysore Palace, also known as the Amba Vilas Palace. This beautiful palace was once the residence of the royal family of Mysore and is now a museum showcasing art, weaponry, and other artifacts of the royal family. Afternoon could be spent at Mysore Zoo, which is home to a variety of animals and birds, including several endangered species. In the evening, visit the Brindavan Gardens which is a sprawling garden spread over 60 acres with a musical fountain show in the evening.

  2. Day 2: Chamundi Hill
    30 minutes (10 km) from Mysore Palace

    In the morning, visit the Chamundi Hill, a famous landmark of Mysore. The hill is home to the Chamundeshwari Temple, an ancient Hindu temple dedicated to Goddess Chamundeshwari, an incarnation of Goddess Durga. The temple is located on the top of the hill and offers a panoramic view of the city. In the afternoon, you can visit the Mysore Sand Sculpture Museum, which is an art gallery showcasing sand sculptures made by artist M.N Gowri. In the evening, visit the St. Philomena's Cathedral, one of the oldest churches in India and a magnificent example of neo-gothic architecture.

Recommendations

If you have extra time, visit the Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary, located 20 km north of Mysore. The sanctuary is home to a variety of birds, including herons, egrets, and cormorants. Another day trip worth considering is to the nearby town of Srirangapatna, which is home to several historical sites, including the Ranganathaswamy temple, the Daria Daulat Bagh, and the Tipu Sultan's Summer Palace.
