Experience Varanasi in 2 Days

  1. Day 1: Ghats and Temples
    10 minutes (2.6 km) from Varanasi Junction Railway Station

    Morning: Start the day with a boat ride along the Ganges River to witness the stunning sunrise and the ancient Ghats. The Dashashwamedh Ghat is the most popular and the oldest Ghat. Witness the morning rituals and ceremonies at the Ghat.

    Afternoon: Visit the Kashi Vishwanath Temple, one of the most sacred temples in India. Located near the Dashashwamedh Ghat, it is dedicated to Lord Shiva.

    Evening: Visit the Manikarnika Ghat to witness the ancient and fascinating tradition of cremation.

  2. Day 2: Sarnath and Silk Weaving
    20 minutes (10.3 km) from Varanasi Junction Railway Station

    Morning: Visit Sarnath, an important Buddhist pilgrimage site located just a few kilometres from Varanasi. It is where Lord Buddha gave his first sermon after attaining enlightenment. Explore the Dhamek Stupa, the Chaukhandi Stupa and the Sarnath Museum.

    Afternoon: Visit a silk weaving factory to see how Banarasi silk sarees are made. Varanasi is famous for its silk weaving, and a visit to the factory will give you an insight into this ancient art.

    Evening: Stroll through the local markets and shop for souvenirs. You can find everything from Banarasi silk sarees to handicrafts, jewellery and street food.

Other attractions to consider are the Tulsi Manas Temple, located near the Durga Temple, and the Ramnagar Fort, a beautiful fort located on the banks of the Ganga River. For a day trip, you can visit the Chunar Fort, located about 40 km from Varanasi. To maximize your fun in Varanasi, try and attend the Ganga Mahotsav, a cultural festival that takes place in November every year.
