Two-Day Varanasi Itinerary in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Assi Ghat
10 minutes (2.3 km) from Varanasi Junction Railway Station

Assi Ghat is a popular ghat located at the confluence of the Ganges and Assi rivers. As you make your way down to the ghat, you'll see an array of shops selling souvenirs, trinkets, and local crafts. In the morning, you can participate in a yoga session or take a boat ride on the river. Spend the afternoon exploring the nearby temples, including the Tulsi Manas Mandir and the Durga Temple. In the evening, witness the mesmerizing Ganga Aarti, a Hindu ritual involving fire, songs, and prayers.

  2. Day 2: Sarnath
30 minutes (10 km) from Assi Ghat

Sarnath is a significant Buddhist pilgrimage site where Gautama Buddha delivered his first sermon after attaining enlightenment. In the morning, visit the Dhamekh Stupa, which marks the spot where Buddha gave the sermon. After that, explore the ruins of the ancient monastery and visit the Sarnath Museum, which houses a collection of Buddhist artifacts and sculptures. In the afternoon, you can take a stroll in the Deer Park and marvel at the intricate carvings of the Chaukhandi Stupa.

Recommendations

If you have time, don't miss out on visiting the Kashi Vishwanath Temple, one of the most revered Hindu temples in India. You can also take a day trip to the nearby city of Allahabad, which is famous for the Kumbh Mela festival and the Triveni Sangam, the confluence of three rivers.
