Discovering Munnar in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Mattupetty Dam
    30 minutes (10 miles) from Munnar Town

    In the morning, head towards the Mattupetty Dam, a popular tourist spot located in the picturesque hills of Munnar. You can go boating in the serene waters of the dam and enjoy the stunning views of the mountains surrounding it. After a relaxing morning, stop by the nearby farm to witness the processing of aromatic tea, and enjoy some freshly brewed tea with snacks. In the evening, visit the Kundala Lake, located close to the dam, and take a leisurely walk around the lake. Take in the stunning sunset views and enjoy some local snacks sold by the vendors.

  2. Day 2: Eravikulam National Park
    1 hour (15 miles) from Munnar Town

    Eravikulam National Park is a must-visit destination for nature lovers. It is home to a vast array of animals and birds, including the famous Nilgiri Tahr. In the morning, set out for the park and embark on a guided tour through the lush green forests of the park. After a refreshing morning, head to the nearby Tea Museum to explore the history of tea in the region. In the evening, visit the Pallivasal Falls and enjoy the serene beauty of the cascading waterfall. Click some pictures and spend some time in this peaceful spot.

Recommendations

If you have some extra time, we recommend visiting the Kolukkumalai Tea Estate, the highest tea plantation in the world, and the Top Station, a spot that offers you stunning panoramic views of the Western Ghats. Both of these locations are a great way to experience the natural beauty of Munnar. You can also consider a visit to the Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary, located 65 km away from Munnar. This sanctuary is home to a variety of endangered species, including tigers and leopards. For a day trip, you can consider visiting the hill station of Kodaikanal, located 160 km away from Munnar.
