3-Day Family Friendly Itinerary for Mysore in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Mysore Palace
    10 minutes (2.5 km) from Mysore Zoo

    Start your day at the majestic Mysore Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most visited places in India. Morning is the best time to visit as the palace is less crowded. Learn about the history and culture of the Wadiyar dynasty as you explore the ornate courtyards, grand halls and beautiful gardens. Don't miss the Sound and Light show in the evening which highlights the palace's rich past.

    In the afternoon, head to the Chamundi Hills, just 30 minutes away by car. Take the Chamundi Hill Road and enjoy the scenic beauty of the Nilgiri Mountains. Visit the Chamundeshwari Temple, an ancient Hindu temple dedicated to goddess Chamundeshwari. Marvel at the intricate carvings and architecture of the temple and enjoy the panoramic view of Mysore from the hilltop.

    In the evening, unwind at the Brindavan Gardens, a beautiful garden known for its fountains and musical fountain show. Watch the fountains dance to the rhythm of music and enjoy the colourful lights that illuminate the garden at night.

  2. Day 2: Mysore Zoo and St. Philomena's Church

    Spend your morning at Mysore Zoo, one of the best zoos in India. Home to over 170 species of animals, the zoo is a fun-filled experience for all age groups. See the majestic African elephant, the endangered white tiger, and the playful chimpanzees. Take a battery-operated vehicle ride to cover the vast area of the zoo. Kids will love the mini train ride and the butterfly park.

    Afternoon is the perfect time to visit St. Philomena's Church, a neo-gothic style church that is a sight to behold. Admire the stunning stained-glass windows and the grand architecture of the church. Spend some peaceful time in the church and enjoy the serene surroundings.

The temple is a fine example of Hoysala architecture and is famous for its intricate carvings and sculptures. Spend some time admiring the beautiful temple and learning about its history.

    Afterward, head to the KRS Dam, one of the largest dams in India. The dam offers a stunning view of the Kaveri River and the surrounding hills. Take a walk on the dam and enjoy the cool breeze. Visit the beautiful Brindavan Gardens adjacent to the dam and enjoy the musical fountain show in the evening.

    In the evening, head back to Mysore and explore the local markets. Buy some souvenirs and try out some street food. Don't forget to taste the famous Mysore Pak, a sweet dish made from gram flour and ghee, which is a specialty of Mysore.
