2-Day Family Friendly Itinerary for Munnar in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Tea Plantations and Spice Gardens
    20 minutes (9.5 miles) from Munnar bus station

    In the morning, head to the Kolukkumalai Tea Estate, the highest tea plantation in the world. Take a guided tour and learn about the tea-making process. In the afternoon, visit the Lockhart Tea Factory, which has been in operation since 1936. Here, you can witness the tea processing and packaging. In the evening, visit the Green Land Spice Garden, where you can see the cultivation of spices such as pepper, cardamom, and cloves, and purchase some to take home with you!

  2. Day 2: Waterfalls and Wildlife
    30 minutes (13.5 miles) from Munnar bus station

    Start your day by visiting the Lakkam Waterfalls, a picturesque waterfall nestled in the lush green forests. You can take a dip in the refreshing waters if you desire. Next, head to the Eravikulam National Park, which is home to the endangered Nilgiri Tahr, among other species of flora and fauna. Take a guided tour of the park, and you may spot some other animals such as sambar deer and Indian muntjacs. In the evening, visit the Tea Museum, which showcases the history of tea in the region and has some interesting displays on tea processing techniques and equipment.

You might also consider visiting the Mattupetty Dam, which offers stunning views of the surrounding hills and has boating facilities. You could also take a day trip to the Top Station, which is the highest point in Munnar and provides breathtaking views of the Western Ghats. For some adventure, you could try paragliding from the Anamudi Peak.

To maximize your fun, make sure to carry sunscreen, hats, and sunglasses, as well as comfortable walking shoes. Don't forget to try the local cuisine, which includes dishes such as appam, puttu, and fish curry.
