Start your day exploring the winding streets of the Gothic Quarter, the oldest part of Barcelona. Discover hidden plazas, charming cafes, and the famous Cathedral of Barcelona. After, take a 10-minute taxi ride to La Sagrada Familia, one of Antoni Gaudi’s most famous works and Barcelona’s most iconic landmark. Be sure to book your tickets in advance as the cathedral can get quite busy. The intricate architecture and vibrant stained glass windows will take your breath away.
Take a 25-minute bus ride to Park Guell, another Gaudi masterpiece, to admire the colorful mosaics and stunning views of the city. After, make your way to Picasso Museum, a tribute to Pablo Picasso who lived in Barcelona during his formative years. The museum houses a vast collection of the artist’s work, including sketches, ceramics, and paintings. Note that the museum is closed on Mondays.
Start your day strolling down the iconic La Rambla, a lively boulevard lined with street performers, flower vendors, and souvenir shops. Be sure to try some of the local street food, like churros and hot chocolate. After, take a 25-minute metro ride to the Magic Fountain of Montjuic and witness a mesmerizing light and water show. The show is free and runs at different times depending on the season, so be sure to check the schedule in advance.
If you have more time, consider visiting Casa Batllo or Casa Mila, two more Gaudi masterpieces. For a beach day, head to Barceloneta, a lively beach area with plenty of restaurants and bars. If you have less time, consider skipping Park Guell or the Picasso Museum, or combining La Rambla and the Magic Fountain of Montjuic into one afternoon/evening activity. Remember to book your tickets for La Sagrada Familia and plan your visit around the show times at the Magic Fountain of Montjuic.
