Begin your day by visiting Mattupetty Dam, a concrete gravity dam built on the Mattupetty lake. It offers spectacular views of the rolling landscape, lush green tea plantations, and the surrounding hills. Indulge in boating, trekking or a scenic walk around the dam. Spend your morning amidst nature’s beauty and tranquillity at this serene location.
After lunch, head to Kundala Dam Lake, perfect for a relaxing picnic with beautiful views of the lake and surrounding hills. Take a pedal boat or a Shikara ride on the lake. Also, visit the nearby Kundala Tea Plantations and experience tea-making process and taste fresh tea straight from the factory. End your day by admiring the beautiful sunset at the Echo Point.
Start your second day by visiting the renowned Eravikulam National Park, which is home to the rare and endangered mountain goat – Nilgiri Tahr. Explore this unique ecosystem, spread across several rolling hills and grasslands. Take a breath of fresh air and spend some time with the wild animals and lush vegetation.
Next, visit the Tata Tea Museum and Factory, an important landmark of the tea industry. Learn about the evolution of tea production and history of the Munnar tea plantations. Relish the different varieties of tea, including masala chai, green tea, and the local speciality, Kashaya.
If you have an extra day, explore Top Station, at a distance of 40 minutes (32.5 km) from Munnar. Perched at an altitude of 1,880 meters, it is the highest point in Munnar. The view from here is breathtaking, and is definitely worth your time.
If you're tight on time, skip any of the attractions and spend more time at your favourite location. Keep in mind that Munnar is a hilly region, so wear comfortable walking shoes, carry insect repellent and sunscreen, and stay hydrated throughout your trip.
