Pamban Bridge is the second-longest sea bridge in India. It connects Rameshwaram with the Indian mainland. It is an engineering marvel that dates back to 1914 and offers a breathtaking view of the sea and the town. Take a walk on the bridge during sunset when the bridge is lit with vibrant colours. Do note that the bridge is usually closed for maintenance work between 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM on Wednesdays.
The Kothandaramaswamy Temple is believed to be the place where Vibhishana, Ravana's brother, sought refuge during the Ramayana era. This temple has a significant connection to the Ramayana and houses many artifacts and sculptures from that time. It was recently renovated and also overlooks the sea. The temple is open from 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
If you have more time in Rameshwaram, you can visit the Gandhamadhana Parvatham, a mountain from where Lord Rama is said to have watched Lanka. You can also visit Water Bird Sanctuary, which has a wide variety of birds, including flamingoes. If you have less time, you can skip Dhanushkodi Beach or Kothandaramaswamy Temple. Remember to respect the local customs and dress modestly when visiting temples.
