The first destination of the trip is Ramanathaswamy Temple, one of the most famous pilgrim sites in India, located in the heart of Rameshwaram. Its beautiful architecture and intricate carvings, as well as the mythological significance attached to the temple, draw thousands of visitors every year. Notably, the temple has one of the longest temple corridors in India, spanning over 6 km. Visitors can also take a bath in the 22 wells of the temple. Tourists must abide by the temple's dress code.
The next stop is the house of the renowned Indian scientist and former President, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. The house has been converted into a museum and exhibits the memorabilia and artefacts of the late scientist. Visitors can witness a replica of the Agni missile and the seating area of his workspace. The museum offers an insightful journey through his life as a scientist and a human being. Entrance fee is nominal and the experience is both enriching and inspiring.
The third destination is the beautiful Pamban Bridge, which connects mainland India and Pamban Island. The bridge, with its awe-inspiring view, stands atop the island and is among the longest sea bridges in India. The bridge has a history of over 100 years and was built to connect the mainland to Rameshwaram to enhance trade between the towns. Visitors can enjoy the view of the sea below, and the train ride while crossing the bridge is exhilarating.
The final stop for the day is Agni Teertham Beach, one of the popular beaches in Rameshwaram. The beach is famous for its mythological significance, and it is believed that a bath in the holy waters of the Agni Teertham washes off one's sins. The serene beach is well-maintained and less crowded and provides a beautiful view of the sea and the sunrise and sunsets. Visitors can also indulge in some local snacks and seafood from the vendors at the beach.
The first destination of the second day is Dhanushkodi Beach, located at the southernmost tip of India. The beach is famous for its untouched beauty, clear blue waters and white sand. The scenic drive to reach the location is rewarding, and the coralline formation on the shore is a sight to behold. Visitors can also partake in a glass-bottom boat ride to witness the marine life and the remains of the submerged town of Dhanushkodi.
The next stop is the Ram Setu Point, also known as Adam's Bridge, which is a series of sandbars and islets that connect India and Sri Lanka. The place has become increasingly popular among tourists and provides a breathtaking view of the sunset and sunrise. Visitors can also witness the floating stones believed to be used for building the Ram Setu.
The third destination is the House of Kalam, a library that has been recently opened in memory of the late President. The last stop of the trip is the Satchi Hanuman Temple, which is a famous pilgrim site dedicated to Lord Hanuman. The temple is believed to be where Lord Rama began his journey to bring back his wife Sita. The temple has a colourful and stunning idol of Lord Hanuman and is frequented by visitors and locals alike. Visitors can witness the evening aarti and the prasad offered by the temple.
For those with more time, they can add a trip to the Gulf of Mannar Marine National Park, known for its coral reefs and biodiversity. A visit to the Villoondi Tirtham beach, where Lord Rama is believed to have washed his bow, is a great addition too. For those with less time, they can skip the House of Kalam Museum or the Pamban Bridge to concentrate on the other locations' essential aspects.
