Ramanathaswamy Temple is the most important and one of the holiest Hindu temples located in Rameshwaram. The temple has the longest corridor among all Hindu temples in India and is known for its stunning architectural design, intricately carved pillars, and 22 wells, each believed to possess curative properties. There is an enormous hall with thousands of pillars and also houses a Shiva linga which was believed to be installed by Lord Rama himself.
Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Memorial is a tribute to the former President of India who was born in Rameshwaram. The memorial is situated in Pei Karumbu, which is about 2 kilometers from the town and has several exhibits showcasing his life. It includes a replica of his workspace, personal artefacts, and books. The place also reflects his journey that inspires the youth of the nation.
Dhanushkodi Beach is a mesmerizing beach that is rarely crowded, giving you a peaceful environment to relax. While swimming is prohibited because of the strong currents and swirls, one can sit back & admire the blue oceanic water and the view of the Indian ocean. The beach is an ideal place for picturesque landscapes, serene views, and making exciting memories along the shore.
Pamban Bridge, located in Rameswaram, is a 2.3 km long railway bridge that stands tall over the blue sea and enthrals visitors with its beauty. One can experience the thrill of passing through India's first and the country's second-largest sea bridge on the train itself or take the road. During monsoons, when the bridge lifts open to allow ferries and cargo ships to pass, one can witness the mesmerizing sight of nature and architectural beauty combine.
If you have more time, you can visit the Agnitheertham, Gandhamadhana Parvatham, and Jada Tirtham temple. The Jada Tirtham temple is known for its natural springs with medicinal properties. Also, try and witness the sunset from the Pamban Bridge that offers an enchanting view. If you have less time, omit the Dhanushkodi Beach from your trip. And while in Rameshwaram, don't forget to try out the South Indian cuisine, which is famous and a delight to eat.
