Varanasi is considered one of the oldest continually inhabited cities in the world, a sacred city of Hinduism, and the spiritual capital of India. Start your day early by taking a boat ride at sunrise along the holy river Ganges, where you can witness the morning rituals of pilgrims and locals. Afterward, head to Kashi Vishwanath Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, and also visit the neighboring ghats Manikarnika and Harishchandra, known as cremation sites. End your day by witnessing the evening Ganga Aarti at the Dasaswamedh Ghat, where Hindu priests perform a fire ritual accompanied by music and chanting.

This Islamic-style architecture is situated on the south bank of the Yamuna river and was built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his late wife Mumtaz Mahal. Also, explore Agra Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage site, which served as the seat of Mughal empire in the 16th century.
Get ready to explore the cultural capital of India, Lucknow, also known as the "City of Nawabs." Visit Bara Imambara, a grand Mughal-era palace, which includes a labyrinth called Bhul Bhulaiya, followed by Chota Imambara, known for its beautiful chandeliers and Islamic calligraphy. Try the local vegetarian delicacies like galouti kebab, tunde ke kebab, and kulfi (frozen dairy dessert) at Tunday Kababi, a famous eatery established in 1905. Visit Allahabad, one of the four pilgrimage sites of the Kumbh Mela, the world's largest gathering of people. Start with the Triveni Sangam, the confluence of the Ganges, Yamuna, and mythical Saraswati rivers, and also visit the Akshaya Vat, Allahabad Fort, and Anand Bhavan, the residence of India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, who was born here. Complete your trip by savoring local chaat (savory street food) at Loknath Chat House.
As Uttar Pradesh has plenty of attractions to offer, consider extending your trip by a couple of days if you're interested in more cultural immersion. You can also opt-out of Varanasi or Allahabad if you prefer a slower pace and spend more time in Agra or Lucknow. Do note that summers in Uttar Pradesh (June to August) can be sultry, so carry sufficient sunscreen, sterile water, and lightweight clothing.
