Start your first day at the iconic Wat Arun Temple in the dawn light. Known as "Temple of Dawn," its intricate Khmer-style spires with colourful porcelain and seashells will leave you spellbound. Climb the central prang to witness a breathtaking view of the Chao Phraya River. You can also light incense sticks and offer flowers to the golden Buddha image at the base of the steps. After exploring the temple, take a ferry ride from Tha Tien Pier to visit Wat Pho, a massive temple complex that houses a golden reclining Buddha. You can end your day by enjoying the authentic Thai seafood in nearby Chinatown.
Begin day two in Bangkok with the magnificent Grand Palace, home to Thai Kings for over 200 years. This vast complex contains several halls and pavilions exquisitely decorated in traditional Thai architecture. The Palace also houses the holiest Buddhist temple called Wat Phra Kaew, home to the Emerald Buddha. After spending the morning at the Grand Palace, head over to the Chatuchak Weekend Market, one of the world's largest outdoor markets, with over 15,000 stalls selling everything from clothes to food. The market is famous for its antique stores, classic Thai handicrafts, and unique souvenirs. Spend a few hours exploring and shopping at the market before heading back to your hotel.
If you have more time, you can visit other famous attractions such as the Lumpini Park, Jim Thompson House Museum, or the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market. For couples who want to experience the nightlife in Bangkok, the Khao San Road or Soi Cowboy is highly recommended. Add an extra day to your itinerary and take a day trip to the Ayutthaya historical park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Be cautious of taxi scams and always agree on a fixed fare before getting in. Lastly, be aware of your dress code when visiting temples - Short shorts, tank tops, and revealing dress are not allowed.
