Start your trip with a challenging trek to the Anamudi Peak, the highest peak in South India at 8,842 ft. The trek takes approx 3-4 hours through the scenic Western Ghats. The peak is surrounded by forests and a variety of flora and fauna. From the peak, you can view the beautiful landscapes of Munnar. Carry snacks and water with you and wear comfortable trekking shoes. The peak remains open from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm.
Next, head to Carmelagiri Elephant Park for a fun-filled time with elephants. You can witness the elephants bathing and learn how they are trained by the mahouts. The park also offers an elephant ride and you can feed the elephants, too. It's open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Next, head to Munnar Tea Museum which is located 15 minutes (6 miles) away to experience the tea making process and witness a wide range of tea products. It remains open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
Start your last day by visiting the Mattupetty Dam and Lake. It's a perfect spot for photography and boating. The Dam is the primary source of water supply for the nearby town and is surrounded by hills and tea plantations. After the peaceful morning, move to Kolukkumalai Tea Estate which is an hour journey from the dam. It's the highest tea plantation in the world. The estate offers a 4x4 jeep safari through the tea plantations followed by tasting a variety of teas. It opens at 6:00 am and closes at 6:00 pm.
To make the most of your trip, you can add Eravikulam National Park to your itinerary. The park is closed from February to April but is open from May onwards. You can spot the endangered Nilgiri Thar and enjoy a peaceful nature walk through the park. If you have more time, you can visit the beautiful Top Station viewpoint, but keep in mind that it takes approx two hours from Munnar to reach there. In case you run out of time, you can exclude the Kolukkumalai tea estate from your itinerary.
