3-Day Nature Itinerary for Munnar in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Eravikulam National Park
20 minutes (9.5 km) from Munnar town

Explore the lush greenery, numerous species of flora and fauna, and the Blue Mountains at the Eravikulam National Park. This is the home of the endangered Nilgiri Tahr and the Neelakurinji flowers that bloom only once in twelve years, so June 2023 is an excellent opportunity to see them.

  2. Day 2: Top Station
1 hour 40 minutes (37 km) from Eravikulam National Park

Visit Top Station–a high-altitude scenic point that offers panoramic views of the surrounding hills and valleys. You can take picturesque photos of the cloud-carpeted valleys, rising peaks, and misty mountains. Check whether Echo Point is open or not. If it's closed, add Pothamedu viewpoint to this list.

  3. Day 3: Waterfalls and Tea Plantations
1 hour 50 minutes (42 km) from Top Station

Visit the tea plantations where you can experience the art of tea making and appreciate the scenic landscapes, followed by a trip to the Athirappilly and Valara waterfalls. You can either take a soothing bath in the waterfall or just absorb its tranquillity.

Time and Costs Estimates

  • Eravikulam National Park (4-5 hours, ₹120 per person)
  • Top Station/Pothamedu viewpoint (2-3 hours, ₹50 for shuttle)
  • Tea plantations excursion (3-4 hours, free)
  • Athirappilly and Vallara waterfalls (2-3 hours, ₹30 per person)

Useful Tips

If you have extra time, consider visiting the Tea Museum, MATSYAFED and Rejuvenation Centre, and Elephant Safari. Keep an eye on the weather since Munnar receives unpredictable rainfall in June, making some tourist sites inaccessible. Keep some Indian currency in hand as most hill stations, local stores and vendors don't accept cards. If you find that you have lesser time, consider dropping Athirappilly and Vallara waterfalls and visit the Mattupetty Dam and Lake instead.
