4-Day Family Friendly Itinerary for Munnar in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Eravikulam National Park
    30 minutes (10 miles) from Munnar Town

    Eravikulam National Park is a must-visit for nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts. Home to the endangered Nilgiri Tahr, the park boasts of rolling hills, lush green forests, and a variety of flora and fauna. The park is open from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM and is closed in February and March for the breeding season of the Nilgiri Tahr.

  2. Day 2: Mattupetty Dam and Kundala Lake
    40 minutes (15 miles) from Eravikulam National Park

    Mattupetty Dam and Kundala Lake are perfect for a family picnic and some boating. The dam offers scenic views of the surrounding hills, while the lake has pedal boats and shikaras for rent. A visit to the nearby Echo Point is also recommended, where you can shout out loud and hear your own voice echo back. Mattupetty Dam is open from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM, while Kundala Lake is open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

  3. Day 3: Tea Museum and Tea Plantations
    25 minutes (7 miles) from Mattupetty Dam and Kundala Lake

    The Tea Museum gives a fascinating insight into the history and production of tea in the region. It has interactive displays, tea-tasting, and a gift shop. After the museum, take a guided tour of one of the many tea plantations in the area to learn more about the tea-making process and enjoy some scenic views. The Tea Museum is open from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, while the tea plantations have varying visiting hours.

  4. Day 4: Top Station and Meesapulimala Trek
    1 hour and 30 minutes (32 miles) from Tea Museum and Tea Plantations

    Top Station offers stunning panoramic views of the Western Ghats and the valley below. It is also the starting point for the Meesapulimala Trek, a challenging but rewarding trek that takes you through the meadows and shola forests to the second-highest peak in the Western Ghats. The trek is only open from September to May due to the monsoon season. Top Station is open from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
