Mata Vaishno Devi Mandir is one of the most popular pilgrimage destinations in India and is located in the Trikuta Mountains. The temple is devoted to the Hindu goddess Vaishno Devi and is open 24/7 throughout the year. It is recommended that you start your trek early in the morning to avoid the crowds and heat. The trek is approximately 12 km long and takes around 4-5 hours to reach the top. Ponies, palanquins, and helicopter services are also available. You can have breakfast at the food stalls situated on the way. The view from the top is breathtaking, and the darshan (worship) is a spiritually fulfilling experience.
After the darshan, you can have lunch at any of the restaurants located near the temple. You can spend the afternoon exploring the nearby attractions, such as Bhairon Temple, located 2.5 km from the main temple. Bhairon Temple is home to the deity Bhairav Nath, who is believed to protect the holy shrine. The temple is situated on a hill and offers a panoramic view of the valley. You can also explore the nearby Ardhkuwari Temple, which is located halfway up the trek to the main temple.
In the evening, you can return to Katra and explore the local markets. You can shop for souvenirs, such as dry fruits, handicrafts, and more. You can also try local delicacies, such as rajma chawal and khatta meetha.
On the second day, you can take the cable car from Katra to Sanjichhat. The cable car ride is approximately 10 minutes long and offers a beautiful view of the mountains. Sanjichhat is located 2.5 km from Katra and is the starting point for the trek to Bhawan. From Sanjichhat, you can take a battery-operated car or walk to Bhawan. The trek is approximately 2 km long and takes around 30-45 minutes.
After reaching Bhawan, you can have lunch at the Bhojanalayas or any of the restaurants located near the temple. You can then explore the temple and attend the aarti (worship ceremony), which takes place twice a day. The temple is located at an altitude of 5,200 feet and is surrounded by the mountains. You can also visit the holy cave, which is located near the temple. The cave is believed to be the place where Mata Vaishno Devi meditated for nine months. Photography is prohibited inside the cave.
In the evening, you can return to Katra and relax at your hotel. You can also explore the nearby areas, such as Jhajjar Kotli, which is located 15 km from Katra. Jhajjar Kotli is a scenic spot surrounded by mountains and a river. You can also try adventure sports, such as rafting and trekking, at Jhajjar Kotli.

Shiv Khori is a cave temple devoted to Lord Shiva and is surrounded by natural beauty. You can also visit the Patnitop hill station, located 80 km from Katra. Jammu is known for its rich history, heritage sites, and temples.
