5-Day Itinerary for Varanasi in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Kashi Vishwanath Temple
    10 minutes (3 km) from Varanasi Junction Railway Station

    In the morning, visit the Kashi Vishwanath Temple, one of the most sacred temples of Lord Shiva. Afternoon, visit the Dashashwamedh Ghat, where you can witness the daily Ganga Aarti. In the evening, take a boat ride on the Ganges to see the beautiful ghats and watch the city light up.

  2. Day 2: Sarnath
    30 minutes (10 km) from Varanasi Junction Railway Station

    In the morning, visit Sarnath, where Lord Buddha gave his first sermon. Visit the Chaukhandi Stupa, Dhamek Stupa, and Mulagandha Kuti Vihar. In the afternoon, explore the beautiful campus of Banaras Hindu University and visit the Bharat Kala Bhavan museum. In the evening, attend a classical music and dance performance at the Sankat Mochan Temple.

  3. Day 3: Manikarnika Ghat
    15 minutes (2 km) from Varanasi Junction Railway Station

    In the morning, visit the Manikarnika Ghat, one of the holiest cremation ghats in India. Take a walk along the ghats and explore the narrow lanes of the old city. In the afternoon, visit the Durga Temple, Tulsi Manas Temple and BHU Handicrafts Center. In the evening, take a cycle rickshaw ride to explore the city and enjoy the famous street food of Varanasi.

  4. Day 4: Ramnagar Fort
    30 minutes (13 km) from Varanasi Junction Railway Station

    In the morning, visit the Ramnagar Fort, a beautiful example of Mughal and Rajput architecture. Then, take a boat ride to the opposite side of the river to explore the Chunar Fort, where Babar and Shahjahan were imprisoned. In the afternoon, visit the Alamgir Mosque and the Gyanvapi Mosque. In the evening, attend a classical dance performance at the famous Ravindra Puri auditorium.

  5. Day 5: Assi Ghat
    20 minutes (5 km) from Varanasi Junction Railway Station

    In the morning, visit the Assi Ghat, where the Ganges meets the Assi River. Enjoy a sunrise boat ride on the Ganges and witness the morning rituals of the locals. In the afternoon, visit the Kedar Ghat and the beautiful Nepali Temple. In the evening, take a walk along the ghats to enjoy the beautiful city views and taste the famous lassi and paan of Varanasi.

Don't miss out on the Ramnagar Fort light and sound show, which tells the history of Varanasi through stories and music. If you have an extra day, visit the nearby village of Chunar, famous for its pottery and stone-carving. Also, try to attend a yoga or meditation class at one of the many ashrams in the city.
