2-Day Family-Friendly Itinerary for Agra in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Taj Mahal
15 minutes (4.8 km) from Agra Fort

The morning is the best time to visit the iconic Taj Mahal, one of the seven wonders of the world. Built by Shah Jahan for his wife Mumtaz Mahal, the monument's white marble changes hues with the rising sun. Afternoon can be spent exploring the gardens or taking a Tonga ride around the area. In the evening, enjoy the sound and light show showcasing the history and architecture of the Taj Mahal.

  2. Day 2: Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri
1 hour (39.5 km) from Taj Mahal

Agra Fort was the main residence of the Mughals until 1638. You can spend the whole morning exploring the fort and admiring the view of the Taj from a distance. In the afternoon, visit Fatehpur Sikri, a well-preserved ghost city that was once the capital of the Mughal Empire. The Buland Darwaza and the Tomb of Salim Chishti are must-visits. Return to Agra in the evening and enjoy some local street food.

Recommendations

Taj Mahotsav is a 10-day cultural festival that takes place in February. It is a celebration of Indian culture and heritage, and is a great way to experience local cuisine, music, and dance. Another must-visit is Mehtab Bagh, a garden complex across the Yamuna River that provides a stunning view of the Taj. For a day trip, Mathura and Vrindavan, two holy cities associated with Lord Krishna, are located just a couple of hours from Agra.
