Take a day trip to Karakul Lake, a breathtaking alpine lake surrounded by snow-capped mountains and grasslands. You can hike around the lake, ride horses, and even camp overnight. In the evening, head back to Kashi and relax at the local hot springs.
Drive to Shipton's Arch, a natural rock formation in the Pamir Mountains that is one of the largest arches in the world. In the morning, hike up to the arch and enjoy the stunning view of the surrounding mountains. In the afternoon, drive to the nearby Tashkurgan County and visit the Stone Fort, an ancient military installation from the Tang dynasty. In the evening, try some delicious local yak meat dishes at a nearby restaurant.
Spend the morning at the Kashgar Bazaar, one of the largest markets in China, and browse through the many stalls selling spices, textiles, and other goods. In the afternoon, visit the nearby Apak Hoja Tomb, another well-preserved Uyghur family tomb with beautiful tile work and calligraphy. In the evening, take a walk along the Kashi River and enjoy the sunset.
Make sure to try the local Uyghur cuisine, which features lamb and beef dishes, as well as various types of bread and noodles. Visit the nearby Taklamakan Desert for a camel ride and sandboarding experience. If you have more time, consider taking a day trip to the Kizil Caves, an ancient Buddhist cave complex with stunning murals and sculptures. Don't forget to bring sunscreen, hats, and plenty of water for outdoor activities.
