4-Day Foodie Itinerary in Mysore (July 2023)

  1. Day 1: Breakfast at Mylari (10am)
10 minutes (2.3 km) from Mysore Palace

Mylari is an iconic breakfast spot in Mysore known for its fluffy and delicious idlis. Be prepared to wait in line but trust us, it's worth it. The chutney and sambar served with the idlis are simply scrumptious. After breakfast, head over to the Mysore Palace, which is a stunning example of Indo-Saracenic architecture. Don't forget to capture a photo of the palace from the outside as well as from the inside.

  2. Day 2: Lunch at Vinayaka Mylari (1pm)
15 minutes (4.2 km) from Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens

For lunch, we recommend Vinayaka Mylari, a small eatery that serves some of the best dosas in Mysore. The dosas here are crispy and golden, and come with a variety of chutneys and sambar. After lunch, head over to the Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens, which is home to a wide variety of animals such as tigers, elephants and giraffes. Be sure to catch the feeding times for some of the animals.

  3. Day 3: Dinner at Hanumanthu Mess (7pm)
20 minutes (6.4 km) from St. Philomena's Church

Hanumanthu Mess is a popular spot among locals for its simple and delicious vegetarian fare. The must-try dish here is their signature bisibelebath, which is a spicy rice and lentil dish. After dinner, head over to St. Philomena's Church, which is one of the tallest churches in Asia. The Gothic-style architecture of the church is simply breathtaking.

  4. Day 4: Breakfast at Hotel RRR (9am)
15 minutes (4.6 km) from Karanji Lake

For your last breakfast in Mysore, head over to Hotel RRR, which is known for its piping hot and crispy vadas. The restaurant has a beautiful outdoor seating area that overlooks the busy streets of Mysore. After breakfast, head over to Karanji Lake, which is a peaceful oasis in the heart of the city. Take a leisurely stroll around the lake and catch a glimpse of the various species of birds that call the lake their home.

Recommendations

If you have some extra time in Mysore, we recommend visiting the Chamundi Hills, which offer stunning views of the city. You can also check out the Mysore Sand Sculpture Museum, which features intricate and detailed sand sculptures. If you're up for a side trip, head over to the nearby town of Srirangapatna, which has a rich history and is home to the Ranganathaswamy temple and the Dariya Daulat Palace.
