3-Day Itinerary for Munnar in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Mattupetty Dam
    25 minutes (11.6 km) from Munnar Town

    The morning is the best time to visit Mattupetty Dam to see the sunrise over the hills. The rare Neelakurinji flowers can be seen blooming in the surrounding hills. Enjoy the beautiful views of the dam and go for a boat ride. In the afternoon, head to the Kundala Dam and Lake, about 20 minutes away by car. The Kundala Dam, built for Pallivasal Hydro Electric Project, is a great place for a picnic. Go for a Shikara ride on Kundala Lake, which is surrounded by lush green forests and rolling hills. In the evening, head to Top Station, which is a 50-minute drive from Kundala Dam. Top Station is the highest point in Munnar and offers spectacular views of the Western Ghats.

  2. Day 2: Eravikulam National Park
    20 minutes (9.8 km) from Munnar Town

    Start your morning with a visit to Eravikulam National Park. The park is home to the endangered Nilgiri Tahr and offers breathtaking views of the rolling hills and tea plantations. The park is open from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, so plan your visit accordingly. In the afternoon, visit the Tea Museum, which is a 20-minute drive from the park. The museum showcases the history of tea in Munnar and has some interesting exhibits. In the evening, head to the Kolukkumalai Tea Estate, which is about an hour's drive from the Tea Museum. The tea estate is located at an altitude of 2,170 meters and offers stunning views of the surrounding hills. Take a guided tour of the tea factory to learn about the tea-making process.

  3. Day 3: Anamudi Peak
    1 hour 20 minutes (30.7 km) from Munnar Town

    Start your day early and head to Anamudi Peak, which is the highest peak in South India. The peak is located in the Eravikulam National Park and is home to a variety of flora and fauna. The trek to the peak is a bit challenging, so make sure to wear comfortable shoes and carry enough water. The park is open from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, so plan your visit accordingly. In the afternoon, visit the Nyayamakad Waterfalls, which is a 40-minute drive from Anamudi Peak. The waterfall is located amidst lush green forests and is a great place for a picnic. In the evening, head to the Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary, which is about an hour's drive from the waterfall. The sanctuary is home to a variety of wildlife, including the endangered Grizzled Giant Squirrel and the Indian Star Tortoise.
