A Family Friendly 4-Day Itinerary for Nepal in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Kathmandu Durbar Square
    10 minutes (4.2 km) from Tribhuvan International Airport

    In the morning, you'll get a chance to visit the famous Kathmandu Durbar Square, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. You can explore the ancient temples and palaces, and learn about the rich history of the city. For lunch, stop by the street vendors surrounding the square and try some delicious local food. In the afternoon, head to the nearby Swayambhunath Stupa, also known as Monkey Temple, which has stunning views of the city. End the day with a stroll around Thamel, a vibrant shopping area with plenty of souvenirs to buy.

  2. Day 2: Chitwan National Park
    5 hours (157 km) from Kathmandu Durbar Square

    Today, you're going to explore the Chitwan National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site. This national park is home to a wide variety of wildlife, including tigers, rhinos, and elephants. You can go on a jungle safari, bird watching, or take a canoe ride on the Rapti river. In the evening, enjoy a traditional Tharu cultural dance performed by the local tribes.

  3. Day 3: Pokhara
    4 hours (148 km) from Chitwan National Park

    Pokhara is a beautiful city situated in the foothills of the Himalayas. In the morning, visit the Phewa Lake and take a boat ride while enjoying the panoramic views of the Annapurna range. You can also visit the Bindhyabasini Temple, a popular Hindu temple located on a hilltop. For lunch, head to Lakeside Road and try some local delicacies. In the afternoon, visit the International Mountain Museum, which showcases the history and culture of mountaineering in Nepal. End the day with a walk around the famous Davis Falls.

  4. Day 4: Boudhanath Stupa and Pashupatinath Temple
    6 hours (200 km) from Pokhara

    On your last day, visit two of the most important religious sites in Nepal. In the morning, visit the Boudhanath Stupa, one of the largest stupas in the world, and a UNESCO World Heritage site. You can observe the Tibetan and Nepali pilgrims who come to worship and circumambulate the stupa. For lunch, head to the nearby Thamel and try some international cuisine. In the afternoon, visit the Pashupatinath Temple, the most important Hindu temple in Nepal, located on the banks of the Bagmati River. You can observe the Hindu cremation rituals and the Sadhus, the holy men who live in the temple.

Recommendations

If you have an extra day, consider visiting the Nagarkot Hill Station, which has stunning views of the Himalayas. You can also try paragliding in Pokhara or go on a bungee jumping adventure in the Last Resort. To maximize your fun, try the local cuisine and attend a cultural show. Lastly, respect the local culture and customs, and try to learn some basic Nepali words.
