Family Friendly 5-Day Itinerary for Bangkok in October 2023

  1. Day 1: Wat Phra Kaew and the Grand Palace
    20 minutes (4.3 km) from Suvarnabhumi Airport

    For the morning, visit the famous Wat Phra Kaew, one of the most important Buddhist temples in Thailand, and home to the Emerald Buddha. Afternoon, head to the adjacent Grand Palace, an impressive complex of buildings that were once the residence of the King of Thailand. In the evening, take a stroll through Khao San Road, a popular tourist area with plenty of street vendors, bars and restaurants.

  2. Day 2: Chatuchak Weekend Market
    35 minutes (12.1 km) from Khao San Road

    For the morning, head to Chatuchak Weekend Market, one of the largest markets in the world, with over 15,000 stalls selling everything from clothing to food to electronics. In the afternoon, visit the nearby Queen Sirikit Park, a beautiful 200-acre park with a lake and botanical gardens. In the evening, catch a performance at the Siam Niramit theatre, which features traditional Thai dance and music.

  3. Day 3: Bangkok National Museum and Wat Arun
    15 minutes (5.7 km) from Siam Niramit

    Start the day at the Bangkok National Museum, which houses an extensive collection of Thai art and artefacts. Afternoon, take a ferry across the Chao Phraya River to Wat Arun, the Temple of Dawn, which is known for its intricate architecture and stunning views of the river and city.   4. Day 4: Dream World and Safari World

    Start the day with a visit to Dream World, a large amusement park with roller coasters, water rides, and shows. In the afternoon, head to Safari World, which features a safari drive-through, marine park, and various animal shows.   5. Day 5: Ayutthaya
    1 hour 30 minutes (75.2 km) from Chao Phraya River

    Take a day trip to Ayutthaya, the former capital of Siam, and home to many ancient temples and ruins. Rent a bike and explore the various sites, including Wat Phra Mahathat and Wat Chaiwatthanaram. In the evening, head back to Bangkok and enjoy a final dinner at one of the city's many rooftop bars, such as Vertigo at Banyan Tree.

If you have more time, consider visiting the Floating Market, where vendors sell their wares from boats on the water, or the Jim Thompson House, a museum dedicated to the famous American entrepreneur who helped revive the Thai silk industry.
