Three Days of Nature in Gov - June 2023

  1. Day 1: Thekkady
    4 hours (160km) from Cochin International Airport

    Morning: Start your day with a visit to the Periyar National Park, home to elephants, tigers, and over 300 species of birds. Take a guided boat tour around the lake, or go on a jungle trek for a chance to spot some wildlife.

    Afternoon: Head to the Mangala Devi Temple, located in the heart of the forest, and admire the stunning views of the Western Ghats. If you're feeling adventurous, take a trek to the temple to see the beautiful sunset from the top.

    Evening: Wrap up your day with a visit to the Kadathanadan Kalari Centre, where you can witness Kalaripayattu, an ancient form of martial arts that originated in Kerala.

  2. Day 2: Kumarakom

    Morning: Start your day with a visit to the Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary, located on the banks of Vembanad Lake. Take a guided tour around the sanctuary to see a variety of migratory birds such as Siberian storks, egrets, and herons.

    Afternoon: Take a relaxing boat ride through the backwaters of Kerala and enjoy the serene surroundings. You can also take a canoe ride into the narrow canals and get a unique perspective of the surrounding villages and paddy fields.

    Evening: Watch the mesmerizing sunset at the Kumarakom Beach. You can also visit the nearby Aruvikkuzhi Waterfalls and enjoy the beautiful scenery.

  3. Day 3: Wayanad
    5 hours (230km) from Kumarakom
    4 hours (165km) from Calicut International Airport

    Morning: Start your day with a visit to the Banasura Sagar Dam, the largest earthen dam in India, surrounded by lush greenery. You can also take a boat ride on the lake or go trekking in the nearby hills.

    Afternoon: Take a scenic drive to the Edakkal Caves, located amid the picturesque Ambukuthi Hills. These caves have ancient petroglyphs and are a popular tourist spot.

    Evening: Visit the Pookode Lake, a beautiful freshwater lake surrounded by forests and hills. You can go boating, or take a leisurely stroll around the lake and spot some of the resident birds and animals.

Recommendations

If you have some extra time, you can also visit the beautiful hill station of Munnar, the tranquil village of Vagamon, or the famous Athirapally Falls. If you're looking for some adventure, you can go trekking in the Chembra Peak or explore the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary. Make sure to try the local cuisine, especially the seafood and coconut-based dishes. And don't forget to take back some spices, tea, and handicrafts as souvenirs.
