2-Day Family Friendly Itinerary in Varanasi

  1. Day 1: Visit the Ghats
    15 minutes (4.5 kilometers) from Varanasi Junction Railway Station

    Start your morning by visiting the Dashashwamedh Ghat, the most popular and vibrant ghat in Varanasi. Witness the Ganga Aarti, a Hindu religious ritual of worshiping the river Ganges. After the ceremony, visit the Manikarnika Ghat, where the dead bodies are cremated. Take a boat ride along the ghats and soak in the beautiful views of the river Ganges. In the afternoon, head to the Kashi Vishwanath Temple, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. Later in the evening, indulge in some street food at the famous Godowlia market.

  2. Day 2: Explore the Culture
    20 minutes (6 kilometers) from Assi Ghat

    Start your second day by exploring the Banaras Hindu University, one of the largest residential universities in Asia. Visit the Bharat Kala Bhavan Museum, which houses a striking collection of Indian paintings, sculptures, and textiles. In the afternoon, visit the Sarnath Museum, known for its extensive collection of Buddhist artifacts and antiques. Later in the evening, attend the Ramlila festival, a theatrical representation of the epic Ramayana, at the Ramnagar Fort.

Don't miss visiting the Alamgir Mosque, an iconic Mughal-era mosque known for its magnificent architecture. Take a day trip to the Chunar Fort, a historical site located about 40 kilometers from Varanasi. Don't forget to sample the famous Banarasi paan, a betel leaf preparation filled with sweet and savory fillings that is unique to Varanasi.
