3-Day Itinerary for Vaishno Devi in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Vaishno Devi Temple
    Walking distance from Katra

    Visit the holy Vaishno Devi Temple, one of the most visited religious sites in India. The trek to reach the temple is around 13 km long and is full of beautiful landscapes. The trek can be started in the early morning hours to avoid the heat. It takes an average of 5-6 hours to reach the temple. On the way, there are plenty of stalls and small shops that offer refreshments and snacks. After reaching the temple, seek blessings and take part in the evening aarti.

  2. Day 2: Ardhkuwari Temple and Bhairavnath Temple
    Driving distance from Katra
    Estimated time: 1 hour, 8.3 km

    Visit the Ardhkuwari Temple, which is located halfway to the Vaishno Devi Temple. The temple is built inside a natural cave and is dedicated to the Goddess. Then head to the Bhairavnath Temple situated on the hilltop and dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple offers a scenic view of the surrounding hills and valleys. Spend the evening in the local market of Katra, indulging in the delicious local cuisine and shopping for souvenirs.

  3. Day 3: Shivkhori and Baba Dhansar Temple
    Driving distance from Katra
    Estimated time: 3 hours, 77.9 km

    Visit the Shivkhori cave temple, which is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is believed to be the place where Lord Shiva manifested himself in the form of a lingam. The cave is 150 meters long and is full of beautiful stalactites and stalagmites. On the way back, stop at the Baba Dhansar Temple, which is surrounded by beautiful waterfalls and a natural pool. Take a dip in the pool and seek blessings at the temple before heading back to Katra.

Other local attractions in the area include the Patnitop hill station, which is around 80 km from Katra and offers stunning views of the Himalayan ranges. The Jhajjar Kotli Park and the Banganga Temple are also worth visiting. It is recommended to carry comfortable shoes, a cap, and sunscreen while trekking to the Vaishno Devi Temple. Carrying water and some snacks is also advisable.
