Two-Day Itinerary for Vaishno Devi

  1. Day 1: Vaishno Devi Temple
    Located in Katra, 0.5 km from Katra Bus Stand
    9:00 AM: Start the day with a visit to the Vaishno Devi Temple. This temple is one of the most revered Hindu shrines dedicated to Shakti and is located at an altitude of 5200 feet. The trek is about 12 km from the base camp in Katra, and can take anywhere from 4 to 8 hours depending on your fitness level. You can hire a pony or a palanquin to make the climb easier or take the helicopter service that runs from Katra to Sanjichhat.
    1:00 PM: Have lunch at the Bhojanalayas located near the temple complex. These provide free meals to all the devotees.
    4:00 PM: After darshan at the temple, you can explore the nearby Bhairon Temple, which is about 2.5 km from the main temple. It is believed that a visit to the Vaishno Devi shrine is incomplete without visiting this temple.
    7:00 PM: Return to your hotel in Katra for dinner and overnight stay.
  2. Day 2: Shivkhori Cave Temple
    Located in Ransoo, 22 km from Katra
    9:00 AM: Start the day with a trip to the Shivkhori Cave Temple. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is located inside a natural cave. The cave is about 150 metres long and has a self-manifested lingam of Lord Shiva. The trek to the cave is about 3 km from Ransoo and takes about 1.5 to 2 hours.
    1:00 PM: Have lunch at the food stalls near the temple complex.
    3:00 PM: After darshan at the temple, you can visit the nearby Baba Dansal, which is about 12 km from the temple. It is a scenic spot famous for its natural water springs.
    6:00 PM: Return to your hotel in Katra for dinner and overnight stay.

Recommendations

If you have the time and energy, you can also visit the Ardh Kuwari Cave, which is located halfway to the Vaishno Devi Temple. It is believed that Mata Vaishno Devi meditated in this cave for nine months before finally merging with the three Lords – Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh. You can also visit the Nau Devi Temple, which is located in the nearby town of Bhumika and is dedicated to the nine forms of Goddess Durga. Another option is to visit the Patnitop hill station, which is located about 80 km from Katra and is famous for its natural beauty and adventure sports.
