Three Days in Varanasi on a Shoestring Budget

  1. Day 1: Visit the Ghats
    15 minutes (3.5 km) from Varanasi Junction Railway Station

    In the morning, visit Assi Ghat, the southernmost Ghat, and the starting point of the Panchatirtha Yatra. Have breakfast at one of the many street food vendors here and take a boat ride to Manikarnika Ghat. The afternoon can be spent exploring the street markets near the ghats, where you can find everything from Banarasi sarees to spiritual souvenirs. In the evening, attend the Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat, where you will witness the beautiful ceremony of worship.

  2. Day 2: Visit the Temples
    20 minutes (5 km) from Dashashwamedh Ghat

    Begin your day with a visit to the Kashi Vishwanath Temple, one of the most famous and sacred temples in India. Afterward, visit the nearby Annapurna Devi Temple for a vegetarian lunch. In the afternoon, visit the Sankat Mochan Hanuman Temple and the Durga Kund Temple. You can end your day by attending the Ganga Aarti at the Hanuman Ghat.

  3. Day 3: Explore the City
    10 minutes (2 km) from Sankat Mochan Hanuman Temple

    Start your day by visiting the Banaras Hindu University and its beautiful campus. From there, head to the Bharat Mata Temple, a unique temple dedicated to Mother India. In the afternoon, visit the Ramnagar Fort, located on the eastern bank of the Ganges river. Explore the fort, its museum, and the nearby Vyas Temple. In the evening, head to the nearby village of Sarai Mohana and witness a local wrestling match.
