5-Day Itinerary for Varanasi in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Kashi Vishwanath Temple
    12 minutes (3.2 km) from Varanasi Junction railway station

    In the morning, visit the famous Kashi Vishwanath Temple, one of the most sacred Hindu temples dedicated to Lord Shiva.   2. Day 2: Sarnath Archaeological Site
    30 minutes (10 km) from Kashi Vishwanath Temple

    Visit Sarnath, an important Buddhist pilgrimage site where Lord Buddha gave his first sermon. Explore the ancient site's ruins, including the Dhamek Stupa and the Mulagandha Kuti Vihar. In the afternoon, visit the Sarnath Museum to learn about the history of Buddhism and view ancient artifacts dating back to the 3rd century BC.   3. Day 3: Dashashwamedh Ghat

Explore the Durbar Hall, the Museum, and the vintage cars and antique collection of the former Maharaja of Varanasi. In the evening, attend the Ganga Mahotsav, a five-day cultural festival, held annually in November, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Varanasi through music, dance, and other performances.

  5. Day 5: Manikarnika Ghat
    11 minutes (3.5 km) from Ramnagar Fort

    Visit Manikarnika Ghat, the main cremation ghat in Varanasi, and witness the rituals of death and rebirth. In the morning, take a boat ride along the river and witness the daily life of the locals. In the afternoon, visit the Tulsi Manas Mandir, a temple dedicated to Lord Rama, and the Durga Temple. In the evening, attend the Ganga Aarti at Assi Ghat.

Aside from the mentioned attractions, it's recommended to visit the Banaras Hindu University, the largest residential university in Asia, and the Bharat Kala Bhavan Museum, which houses an impressive collection of Indian art and artifacts. For side trips, consider visiting the Chunar Fort, located 30 km from Varanasi, or the Chandraprabha Wildlife Sanctuary, located 60 km from Varanasi.
