Nature Lover's Itinerary for Munnar in August 2023

  1. Day 1: Tea Garden and Mattupetty Dam
    20 minutes (8.7 km) from Munnar Town

    In the morning, we will visit the breathtaking Tea Garden and learn about the tea-making process while enjoying the stunning views. After lunch, we will head to the Mattupetty Dam, which offers a picturesque view of the surrounding hills. You can take a boat ride or go for a nature walk and spot some wildlife. In the evening, we will relax by the serene waters of the dam.

  2. Day 2: Eravikulam National Park and Anamudi Peak
    30 minutes (14.4 km) from Mattupetty Dam

    After breakfast, we will visit the Eravikulam National Park, home to the endangered Nilgiri Tahr. We will explore the park's diverse flora and fauna and enjoy the panoramic views of the mountains. After lunch, we will trek to the Anamudi Peak, the highest peak in South India. The trek is challenging but worth it for the stunning views of the Western Ghats. In the evening, we will relax and enjoy some local cuisine.

  3. Day 3: Echo Point and Kundala Lake
    20 minutes (9.5 km) from Anamudi Peak

    Today, we will visit the Echo Point, where you can hear your voice reverberate across the mountains. It's a surreal experience. After lunch, we will head to the Kundala Lake, a serene spot with a boating facility. You can enjoy a relaxing boat ride or go for a nature walk around the lake. In the evening, we will relax and enjoy some local cuisine.

  4. Day 4: Top Station and Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary
    1 hour 30 minutes (54.5 km) from Kundala Lake

    After breakfast, we will visit the Top Station, the highest point in Munnar, which offers panoramic views of the Western Ghats. En route, we will see the beautiful tea plantations and the magnificent Attukad Waterfalls. After lunch, we will visit the Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary, home to a variety of flora and fauna, including the endangered Giant Grizzled Squirrel. You can enjoy a nature walk or trek in the sanctuary. In the evening, we will head back to Munnar Town.

If you have an extra day, you can visit the Marayoor Sandalwood Forest, which is known for its sandalwood trees and sugarcane fields. You can also visit the Kolukkumalai Tea Estate, which is the world's highest organic tea plantation. For adventure enthusiasts, there are many trekking options in and around Munnar. You can trek to the Meesapulimala Peak or the Lakshmi Hills. To maximize your fun, try local cuisine like Appam, Puttu, and Idiyappam.
