Four-Day Somnath-Dwarka Itinerary for August 2023

  1. Day 1: Somnath Temple
    Located in Prabhas Patan, 6.6 km (approx. 15 min drive) from Veraval Railway Station

    Begin your day with a visit to the holy Somnath Temple. This temple is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas and is worshipped by Hindus all over the world. The beautiful architecture and the tranquil atmosphere of the temple will leave you mesmerized. After the morning prayers and darshan, head to the nearby Bhalka Tirtha, where Lord Krishna is believed to have breathed his last. You can also visit the Triveni Sangam, the confluence of three holy rivers - Hiran, Kapila, and Saraswati.

  2. Day 2: Dwarkadhish Temple
    Located in Dwarka, 230 km (approx. 4.5-hour drive) from Somnath Temple

    Start your day early and make your way to Dwarka. The Dwarkadhish Temple, dedicated to Lord Krishna, is a must-visit. The architecture of the temple is breathtaking and the intricate carvings will leave you spellbound. After the morning darshan, take a stroll around the temple complex and visit the nearby Rukmini Devi temple and Gomti Ghat. In the evening, attend the aarti at the Dwarkadhish Temple and witness the grandeur of the temple in all its glory.

  3. Day 3: Beyt Dwarka
    Located in the Gulf of Kutch, 30 km (approx. 1-hour drive and 30 min by ferry) from Dwarka

    Today, take a trip to Beyt Dwarka, an island situated in the Gulf of Kutch. It is believed to be the place where Lord Krishna had set up his kingdom when he was ruling over Dwarka. Take a ferry ride from Okha to Beyt Dwarka and visit the famous Dwarkadheesh temple here. After the darshan, take a dip in the holy waters of the sea and relax on the beach. You can also visit the Nageshwar Jyotirlinga temple and the Rukshamanee Mandir while on the island.

  4. Day 4: Gita Mandir and Sudama Setu
    Located in Dwarka, 7 km (approx. 20 min drive) from Dwarkadhish Temple

    On your final day in Dwarka, visit the Gita Mandir, a temple dedicated to Lord Krishna and the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita. The temple has beautiful paintings and sculptures portraying the teachings of Lord Krishna. After the darshan, head to the Sudama Setu, a bridge built over the Gomti River. This bridge connects the mainland of Dwarka to the Panchnad region and provides a stunning view of the river. In the evening, explore the local markets of Dwarka and pick up some souvenirs for your loved ones.

Recommendations

If you have extra time, you can visit the Bet Dwarka Marine National Park, located near Beyt Dwarka. It is a protected area and is home to a variety of marine life, including dolphins, porpoises, and dugongs. You can also take a trip to the nearby city of Porbandar, the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi. Another must-visit place is the Kirti Mandir, a memorial temple dedicated to the life and teachings of the Mahatma. To make the most of your trip, try to visit the temples early in the morning to avoid crowds and long queues.
