Nature Trip to Munnar in August 2023

  1. Day 1: Mattupetty Dam
    45 minutes (13 miles) from Munnar Town

    At Mattupetty Dam, you can enjoy the serene waters and picturesque surroundings. Start your day with a boat ride and soak in the beautiful views of the tea plantations and hills. Take a stroll in the nearby Echo Point and listen to your echo reverberate through the mountains. Finally, visit the Tea Museum and learn about the history and production of tea in the region.

  2. Day 2: Eravikulam National Park
    1 hour (12 miles) from Munnar Town

    Explore the vast expanse of Eravikulam National Park, home to the endangered Nilgiri Tahr. Take a guided trek through the park and spot other wildlife like the sambar deer and gaur. In the afternoon, visit the Anamudi Peak, the highest peak in South India, for stunning panoramic views. End your day with a visit to the Lakkam Waterfalls and enjoy the refreshing waters.

  3. Day 3: Top Station
    1 hour 30 minutes (33 miles) from Munnar Town

    Take a scenic drive to Top Station, located on the border of Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Enjoy the breathtaking views of the Western Ghats and the valley below. Take a short hike to the nearby Kurinjimala Sanctuary and witness the blooming of the Neelakurinji flowers that bloom once every twelve years. On your way back, stop at the Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary and experience the diverse flora and fauna of the region.

Recommendations

If you have extra time, consider visiting the Attukad Waterfalls or the Kundala Dam. You can also take a side trip to the nearby hill stations of Thekkady or Kodaikanal. To maximize your fun, try taking a bike ride through the tea plantations or go on a hot air balloon ride for stunning views from above.
