Transportation

Most travel between cities will be by train, which is cost-effective and saves time. The Rome Metro and ACI bus networks provide excellent service within the city. In Venice, the vaporetti (water buses) are a must-do experience, along with the iconic gondolas. Taxis can be expensive and should be reserved for emergencies.

Useful Tips

If you have more time, consider taking a day trip to Pompeii or the Isle of Capri from Rome. Or, take a side trip to Sienna or San Marino from Florence. If you have less time, skip Murano Island or Lido Beach in Venice, and enjoy more time sightseeing in the city's central districts.
