Ayutthaya Ancient City is a UNESCO World Heritage site of an old city that is more than 700 years old, located 1 hour and 30 minutes away from Bangkok city. Here, you can explore the ruins of the temples, ancient structures and the unique culture and traditions of the former Kingdom of Siam.
Start your day by visiting one of the most important Buddhist temples in Thailand, Wat Pho, which houses an enormous reclining Buddha statue. Afterward, take a ferryboat across the river to the opposite shore to see the magnificent Wat Arun temple, also known as the Temple of Dawn, which is decorated with vibrant colors, glass and Chinese porcelain.
This day's journey begins with a visit to the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, also known as Wat Phra Kaew, which houses the precious Emerald Buddha statue. Transportation in Bangkok can be challenging due to the heavy traffic, but it is quite easy to get around by using the Skytrain (BTS) and Metro (MRT). In addition, hiring a taxi, tuk-tuk or Grab taxi motorcycle can be a great option for getting around the city. The fares are quite inexpensive (around $10 per day), but it may take longer to reach your destination due to traffic conditions.
If you have more time, you may consider visiting other local attractions such as the Chatuchak Weekend Market, Asiatique Riverfront, or the Bangkok National Museum. However, if you have less time, you may want to consider doing a half-day or a one-day tour to see the main attractions such as Ayutthaya, Wat Pho and the Grand Palace.
The main airport in Bangkok is Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK), located about 24 km east of the city centre. There is also another airport called Don Mueang International Airport (DMK), located about 20 km north-east of the city centre, which is mainly used for domestic flights and budget airlines.
