4-Day Nature Itinerary for Munnar in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Mattupetty Dam
    30 minutes (9 miles) from Munnar

    In the morning, visit the Mattupetty Dam and enjoy stunning views of the surrounding hills. Take a boat ride in the lake and spot some of the exotic birds that come to the area. Head to the Tea Museum in the afternoon to learn about the history of tea in the region, see the tea-making process, and taste different types of tea. In the evening, explore the Blossom Hydel Park and take a walk along the trails amidst the lush greenery.

  2. Day 2: Eravikulam National Park
    20 minutes (7.5 miles) from Munnar

    Start the day early with a visit to the Eravikulam National Park and watch the sunrise from the highest peak in South India, Anamudi. Take a guided trek inside the park and spot the endangered Nilgiri Tahr, Sambar Deer, and other wildlife. In the afternoon, visit the Kundala Dam and the Echo Point, where you can hear your voice resonating across the hills. End the day by watching the sunset at Top Station, the highest point in Munnar.

  3. Day 3: Attukad Waterfall
    30 minutes (9 miles) from Munnar

    Start the day with a refreshing visit to the Attukad Waterfall and enjoy the scenic beauty of the area. Take a walk along the tea gardens and visit the Tea Factory to learn more about the tea-making process. In the afternoon, visit the Kolukkumalai Tea Estate, the highest tea plantation in the world, and learn about the unique manufacturing process. End the day with a visit to the Pothamedu Viewpoint, which offers stunning views of the valley at sunset.

  4. Day 4: Anayirangal Dam
    20 minutes (11 miles) from Munnar

    In the morning, visit the Anayirangal Dam and take a boat ride in the serene waters surrounded by the forest. In the afternoon, visit the Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary and take a guided trek to explore the biodiversity of the area. In the evening, visit the Marayoor Sandalwood Forests and learn about the cultivation and extraction process of sandalwood. End the day with a relaxing Ayurvedic massage at a nearby spa.

Recommendations

Other local attractions worth considering are the Cheeyappara Waterfalls, the Tea Gardens, and the Lakkam Waterfalls. You can also take a side trip to the nearby hill stations of Thekkady and Vagamon. To maximize your fun, try a hot air balloon ride over the tea gardens or take a cultural tour to experience the local food, music, and dance.
