Start your Vaishno Devi pilgrimage by arriving at Katra. Check into a budget hotel and freshen up. Head to the Banganga check post and start your trek to Mata Vaishno Devi Bhawan. You can hire a pony, palanquin, or helicopter to reach the Bhawan. After seeking blessings, head back to Katra. In the evening, stroll around the main bazaar and try some local delicacies.
After an early breakfast, hire a cab or take a bus to reach Shiv Khori, a mystical cave temple of Lord Shiva. It is believed that a visit to Vaishno Devi is incomplete without a visit to Shiv Khori. Take a guided tour of the cave and witness the natural formation of Shiva Lingam. After seeking blessings, head back to Katra. In the evening, relax and enjoy a meal at your hotel.
After breakfast, take a shared cab or bus to reach Patnitop, a beautiful hill station in the Udhampur district. Enjoy the picturesque views of the Chenab basin from Nathatop. You can also indulge in adventure activities like paragliding, skiing, and zip-lining. Visit the Nag Temple, which is believed to be more than 600 years old. Head back to Katra in the evening.
After an early breakfast, head to Vaishno Devi Ardhkumari, a holy cave where Mata Vaishno Devi meditated for nine months before moving to the main cave. The cave is located halfway to Bhawan and can be reached by a short trek or a pony ride. Seek blessings and head back to Katra. Spend the rest of the day shopping for souvenirs and relaxing.
If you have extra time, you can explore the nearby town of Jammu, which is famous for its ancient temples and historic sites. You can also visit the Baba Dhansar temple, which is located near Shiv Khori. Another side trip you can take is to the Sanasar Lake, which is a popular picnic spot. To maximize your fun, try to avoid traveling during peak season (June-July) and weekends. Instead, plan your trip during weekdays and shoulder season (April-May or September-October) to avoid crowds and save money on accommodation and transportation. Make sure to carry comfortable shoes, warm clothing, and a first-aid kit for the trek.
