Honeymoon Itinerary for Trichy in October 2023

  1. 9:00AM: Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple
    15 minutes (6.3 km) from Trichy Junction Railway Station

    Visit the largest functioning Hindu temple in the world, dedicated to Lord Ranganatha. Marvel at the intricate carvings on the gopurams and the beautiful architecture of the temple. Don't miss the utsavamurti procession that happens twice a day.

  2. 11:00AM: Rock Fort Temple
    10 minutes (4.1 km) from Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple

    Climb up the 434 steps to reach the top of the Rock Fort Temple and be rewarded with breathtaking views of Trichy. The temple complex has two shrines, one dedicated to Lord Shiva and the other to Lord Ganesha. The temple is said to have been built by the Pallavas.

  3. 1:00PM: Vekkaliamman Temple
    20 minutes (8.7 km) from Rock Fort Temple

    Visit the Vekkaliamman Temple, a unique temple dedicated to the goddess of smallpox. The temple has an interesting history, and the architecture is different from the usual Dravidian style temples in the region. Don't miss the delicious prasadams offered at the temple.

  4. 3:00PM: Kallanai Dam
    40 minutes (19.6 km) from Vekkaliamman Temple

    Take a scenic drive to the Kallanai Dam, an ancient dam built across the Kaveri River during the Chola dynasty. Enjoy the beautiful views of the river and the lush greenery surrounding the dam. You can also take a boat ride on the river.

  5. 6:00PM: Ucchi Pillayar Temple
    30 minutes (11.6 km) from Kallanai Dam

    Visit the Ucchi Pillayar Temple, located on top of a hill in the middle of the city. The temple is dedicated to Lord Ganesha and has a unique idol that is believed to be self-manifested. Enjoy the sunset views of Trichy from the hilltop.

Recommendations

If you have time, consider visiting the Jambukeswarar Temple, which is dedicated to Lord Shiva and has a unique water stream that flows beneath the Shiva lingam. You can also take a side trip to the nearby town of Srirangam, which has several beautiful temples. To maximize your fun, try the local cuisine, especially the biryani and the famous Trichy cigars. Don't forget to shop for local handicrafts and textiles at the Trichy market.
