2-Day Cultural Immersion Itinerary in Varanasi for July 2023

  1. Day 1: Assi Ghat

    Assi Ghat is one of the most popular ghats in Varanasi where locals and tourists gather to watch the morning aarti or to take a boat ride along the Ganges. In the morning, you can witness the sunrise and see the devotees perform their morning rituals. After breakfast, head to the nearby Banaras Hindu University to explore the campus and the Bharat Kala Bhavan museum. In the afternoon, visit the Ramnagar Fort, located on the eastern bank of Ganges. Built-in the 18th century, it is the ancestral home of the Maharaja of Banaras. In the evening, take a boat ride to watch the sunset aarti at the Dashashwamedh Ghat and enjoy the evening breeze as you float along the river.

  2. Day 2: Sarnath
    30 mins (10.3 km) from Varanasi Junction

    Head to Sarnath, the place where Gautama Buddha is said to have given his first sermon. Visit the Sarnath Archaeological Museum and explore the ruins of ancient monasteries and stupas. After lunch, visit the Dhamek Stupa, which is said to mark the spot where Buddha preached and is one of the largest and most impressive stupas in India. In the evening, return to Varanasi and head to the Darbhanga Ghat to witness the evening aarti and watch the beautifully lit-up ghats along the Ganges.
