Four Days in Kanyakumari in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Kanyakumari Beach
    10 minutes (1.2 km) from Kanyakumari Bus Stand

    Start your first day by visiting the iconic Kanyakumari Beach, where you can watch the sunrise and sunset from the same spot. The beach is surrounded by hills and visitors can take a dip in the cool waters or sit and relax on the sand. Afternoon, head over to the nearby Vivekananda Rock Memorial, accessible by a short ferry ride. Dedicated to Swami Vivekananda, this memorial is a popular pilgrimage site and offers stunning panoramic views of the surrounding sea. In the evening, visit the Thiruvalluvar Statue, a 133-feet tall stone structure that represents the famous Tamil poet and philosopher, Thiruvalluvar.

  2. Day 2: Padmanabhapuram Palace and Suchindram Temple
    45 minutes (50 km) from Kanyakumari Beach

    Day two takes you to the Padmanabhapuram Palace, situated in the nearby town of Thuckalay. This wooden palace was once the seat of the Travancore rulers and is famous for its intricate carvings and murals. Afternoon, continue the cultural experience by visiting the Suchindram Temple, an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma. The temple is known for its stunning architecture and colourful gopurams. In the evening, return to Kanyakumari and watch the beautiful sunset from the Gandhi Memorial.

  3. Day 3: Mathur Aqueduct and Vattakottai Fort
    1 hour 20 minutes (70 km) from Suchindram Temple

    On day three, start by visiting the Mathur Aqueduct, a popular spot for photography and scenic views. This 1,000-feet long aqueduct was built in the 1960s and is still used to transport water to nearby farms. Afternoon, make your way to the Vattakottai Fort, a seaside fort built by the Travancore kingdom in the 18th century. The fort offers panoramic views of the sea and the surrounding hills. In the evening, return to Kanyakumari and explore the local markets and try some of the local delicacies.

  4. Day 4: Our Lady of Ransom Church and Udayagiri Fort
    1 hour (35 km) from Vattakottai Fort

    On the final day, start by visiting the Our Lady of Ransom Church, one of the oldest churches in Kanyakumari. This beautiful church was built in the 16th century and is known for its stunning architecture and peaceful atmosphere. Afternoon, head over to the nearby Udayagiri Fort, a hilltop fort that was once used by the Travancore army. The fort offers panoramic views of the surrounding hills and the sea. In the evening, return to Kanyakumari and watch the beautiful sunset from the Kanyakumari Lighthouse.
