Begin your journey with a visit to the Vivekananda Rock Memorial - a majestic monument dedicated to the great Indian philosopher Swami Vivekananda. Upon arrival, take a ferry ride to the rock, where you can see the breathtaking view of the sea and the Sunrise or the Sunset. Spend around 2 hours here and delight in the serenity and beautiful landscapes of the surrounding areas. After that, visit the adjacent exhibitions that display Vivekananda's ways of life, teachings, and many more.
The second day is a mixture of art and history with visits to the Thiruvalluvar Statue and the Padmanabhapuram Palace. Firstly, visit the Thiruvalluvar Statue, which stands tall as the biggest statue in India, dedicated to the Tamil saint. With a list of over 100,000 couplets that describe human life and virtues, it is a must-visit destination. After this, head over to the Padmanabhapuram Palace, which is mainly made of wood and contains a significant throne chair and many an antique heritage site. It takes you back in time to the medieval era and showcases the indigenous arts, crafts, and design of the region.
Start off with a visit to the sacred Kanyakumari Temple, located at the meeting point of the Bay of Bengal, Arabian Sea, and Indian Ocean. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Kumari Amman, and the ritualistic worship of the goddess and various poojas will astound you. Following the temple, head over to the Bhagavathi Amman Temple, which is an ancient temple dedicated to the goddess of power. This is an incredible site with a serene calmness that is sure to make you feel at peace.
For those with an additional day or two, it is worth visiting the Gandhi Memorial Mandapam, Our Lady of Ransom Church, and the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial. If you have less time, consider omitting the Thiruvalluvar Statue or Padmanabhapuram Palace. Remember also to carry sunscreen, hats, and sunglasses as the sun can get hot throughout the day, and always check the opening timings before planning your day.
