Family-Friendly 6-Day Itinerary for Italy in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Rome
    14 minutes (3.2km) from Leonardo da Vinci International Airport

    Start the day by visiting the iconic Colosseum and Roman Forum. In the afternoon, take a stroll in Villa Borghese Gardens and visit the Galleria Borghese. End the day at Piazza Navona, where street performers and vendors offer entertainment for all ages.

  2. Day 2: Vatican City
    15 minutes (4km) from Rome

    Begin the day at St. Peter's Basilica, the largest church in the world, and climb to the top of the cupola for breathtaking views. Visit the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel in the afternoon but book tickets well in advance. End the day with a visit to Castel Sant'Angelo, which was once a fortress and later a papal residence.

  3. Day 3: Florence
    1 hour and 30 minutes (275km) from Rome

    Be awed by the beautiful art at Galleria degli Uffizi in the morning and then head to Piazza della Signoria and Palazzo Vecchio. Spend the afternoon in the beautiful Boboli Gardens, have a picnic and enjoy the view of the city from the top. End the day by visiting the famous Ponte Vecchio bridge and watch the sunset over the Arno River.

  4. Day 4: Pisa and Lucca
    1 hour and 30 minutes (85km) from Florence

    Start the day by taking a memorable photo of the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Then head to Lucca, a charming walled city known for its well-preserved Renaissance-era walls. Take a bike ride on top of the wall, visit the beautiful Piazza dell'Anfiteatro and climb the Guinigi Tower for panoramic views.

  5. Day 5: Venice
    3 hours and 30 minutes (260km) from Lucca

    Take a ride on a gondola in the morning and enjoy the canals while listening to beautiful Italian songs. In the afternoon, explore the Doge's Palace, St. Mark's Basilica and the Piazza San Marco. End the day with a visit to the Bridge of Sighs, a bridge that connects the palace to the prison.

  6. Day 6: Milan
    2 hours and 50 minutes (275km) from Venice

    Begin the day by visiting the iconic Duomo di Milano cathedral, one of the largest cathedrals in the world, and the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II shopping mall. Spend the afternoon at the Leonardo da Vinci Museum of Science and Technology, which is a perfect place for kids to learn and have fun. End the day at the beautiful Sforza Castle, where you can admire art, history and enjoy the park.
